Astigmatism (irregular shape of the cornea), suffered by millions of people in the US, is usually diagnosed by eye doctors through one of four commonly used methods. The standard vision test is one of the most frequently used tools to determine the condition of an individuals eyes. If you are like me, you have taken countless vision tests over the years, everywhere from school to the local drivers license office.
Refraction is the process in which an eye doctor uses a machine to change the lenses people see through until they can see the eye chart clearly. In keratometry, a machine measures the curvature of your cornea according to its relative steepness or flatness as compared to 20/20 vision. With corneal topography, a different machine measures the cornea with thousands of tiny measurements to build a color map of the cornea.
Treatments for Astigmatism
Eyeglasses have been the choice for many people who are looking for ways to correct vision problems relating to astigmatism. Eyeglasses tend to treat/correct the results of this visual problem and not the true cause of the problem. Contact lenses added to the eye are a correction of the vision as well and not an actual treatment.
Laser surgery for vision correction actually makes changes to the overall shape of the cornea of the eye, effectively eliminating astigmatism. Some people have found eye exercises help in combating this eye deformity as well. The exercises strengthen the muscles around the eye and eventually cause the eye to adjust back to a more normal shape.

Myopia, commonly referred to as nearsightedness, is the most common eye problem among the citizens of the US. People who are living with nearsightedness have an eyeball (or two) that is long and thin, causing the eye to focus an image in front of the retina. The retina is a thin layer of nerve tissue lining the inside of the eye. To correct this problem, doctors prescribe eyewear with a negative number, such as -2.75.
The difficulty with myopia is that sometimes the retina has a tendency to have small tears in it with this eye shape. If not taken care of properly, the retina can continue to tear or have small breaks in it that can eventually lead to a retinal detachment. If this occurs, it is time to find a good eye surgeon to repair the damage as soon as possible.
Risk Factors for Myopia
Many people are at great risk for myopia through their own family history. People who have parents with nearsightedness are at a higher risk than those whose parents have perfect vision or have farsightedness. According to the doctors, infants who are born premature, especially those with retinopathy of prematurity (from being born before the 28th week of pregnancy) are at a high risk.
People who have other eye diseases, including night blindness, infantile glaucoma and more, are at high risk as well. Studies have taken place showing people who read extensively have higher degrees of myopia. Just because a person is prone to nearsightedness does not mean he will have it, and there is little he or she can do to avoid it. There are eye exercises, however, that may help to relieve some of the strain caused by myopia.

Finding a myopia cure may sound impossible to people who have been nearsighted for years and years. While this visual problem is not life threatening, it can eventually lead to blindness in extreme cases, when the proper steps are not taken to combat it. It can cost thousands and thousands of dollars for eyeglasses and eye care for people who must keep track of their vision during their lifetimes.
Finding the Myopia Cure
People looking for a quick myopia cure will be glad to know there is one, but it will cost you a considerable amount of money. Although you may see various doctors offering all kinds of low prices for laser surgery to correct vision, you need to know that very few (make that very, very few) people actually qualify for the lowest prices. You can expect to pay over $1,000 per eye for laser surgery if you make it through the stringent qualifying process.
The bad news is at this point in time, most insurance companies see laser corrective surgery for vision as a cosmetic surgery. This means the person who has the surgery must pay for all of the costs associated with the surgery. Be sure to find out what the costs are for office visits, the procedure, any medications or eye drops and any other expenses before you sign anything.
Some people have turned to age-old practices to find the myopia cure they are after. Eye care physicians have known for years the positive benefits of doing eye exercises for healthy eyes and better vision. If you are suffering from nearsightedness, you may want to consider taking on some eye exercises to strengthen the muscles around the eye and correct vision.

Vision correction has been around for thousands of years, even though it has not always been a formal practice. Records exist of people using crystals in ancient times to magnify the objects they were looking at. Eyeglasses, formerly known as spectacles, have been in use for hundreds of years and some say they have been used in China for over 2,000 years, but it is likely glasses were not used to correct vision.
Vision Correction Choices
Never before has there been such a great variety of choices in vision correction. The popular choice for centuries still exists in the form of eyeglasses. There have been many incredible advances in glasses in the last 15-20 years, which would astound and confound people who lived just 100 years ago. Glasses are still the number one choice for people to correct vision problems around the world.
Many people choose to use contact lenses to correct their vision. Contacts allow people the freedom to participate in many activities without having to worry about their glasses falling off or other problems. Millions and millions of people use contact lenses everyday across the US and enjoy the results they experience with them.
Laser surgery to correct the shape of the eyeball to restore vision to 20/20 has been very popular and is gaining momentum. Many people are using eye exercises for vision correction because it is easy and very cost-effective. This is not a quick fix, but many people have noticed incredible results in vision improvement by doing exercises on a regular basis.

Presbyopia (pronounced prez-bee-oh-pee-yuh) is a natural occurrence of near vision loss, affecting millions of people every year. As with many other parts of the body, changes for the worse occur in a persons eyesight as he or she gets older. This usually starts taking place in middle age and then progresses through age 65.
Doctors have found people who are nearsighted tend to experience presbyopia later in life than those who are farsighted. Some people find themselves holding papers, books or other reading material away from their eyes to see it clearly. If you notice you can read things better the farther they are from your eyes, you are battling this natural change in your vision.
Combating Presbyopia
Many times people purchase a pair of reading glasses to use whenever they need to combat the effects of presbyopia. Reading glasses provide a small change in vision, but just enough to allow people to read items held more closely to their eyes. Every year, over 30 million pairs of reading glasses are sold in the US. Some of these glasses are full lenses and some are half lenses, allowing people to look over the top of the glasses to see objects in the distance.
Eye exercises can be another way to combat the effects of presbyopia by strengthening the muscles around the eyeball. Many people exercise various parts of their bodies to combat the effects of aging and to keep their body in the best shape possible. It only makes sense to add exercises for the eyes, in order to combat the effects of aging in this area as well, and to keep your eyes as healthy as possible.
